The art of Cyanotype
Printing Workshop

Discover the poetry of light and shadows. In this Victorian inspired creative experience.
Arrange botanical forms and watch them become striking blue and white photographic prints.

The Experience

A little light
A little magic.

Transform delicate natural forms into timeless shades of blue.

Cyanotype is an early photographic printing technique that makes images without a camera. Leaves, flowers and other objects block the light, leaving pale silhouettes against a rich prussian blue ground.

At the Aviary, this process becomes a hands on exploration of composition, observation and natural history.
An invitation to work slowly and discover beauty in the smallest details.

AT THE PRINTMAKER’S TABLE

Revealed by light.

Our planned workshop explores the essential stages of cyanotype printing.
Guided by observation, careful arrangement and the joy of discovery.

No prior printmaking or photography experience is needed.

A NOTE FROM THE DARKROOM

Early photographic method

Where science
meets the garden.

With roots in 19th century photography, cyanotype has long captured the shapes of plants and everyday objects. Every exposure is part experiment, part art. A small transformation made visible through light and water.
