MedLock

We had the opportunity to bring the production level to a new ‘high’ on a recent project. Diving into new topics and learning while creating is one of the best feelings. With the cannabis industry booming after Canadian legalization, we were so excited to have something new land on our doorstep.

LiquiMedlock Inc., a compliant packaging company for cannabis and pharmaceuticals, reached out to our team in hopes of creating a commercial for their packaging products. Cannabis companies are needing new and creative ways to produce, market, and sell their products, making it an exciting time to be a part of the commercial industry. Come with us Behind The Scenes!

Now I know what you’re thinking, what can you do with simple packaging? The simplicity of the product left room for us to get as creative as we wanted. When Medlock came to us with the vision of a commercial, we knew exactly where to start… the aquarium store! Yes, the spot where the closest thing to the products we’re working with is fish food. After picking up the tank we were onto our next hurdle. Figuring out how to create a tranquil colored tank with floating magical packaging, alongside ink colors floating through the air from different directions… we had some brainstorming ahead of us.

When creating a commercial the most important thing to know is that sometimes the best components of a project are ones that don’t break the bank. Would you believe us if we said our background is a half-bent piece of bristol board on its last legs, taped against the back of the tank? Oh! And that our product suspension “machine” is marbles, fishing wire, and scotch tape? Budget filmmaking is one of the most important things to learn so that we are able to deliver the highest quality product on any budget. For this project, the only outsourced material we had was our ink shooters and ink.

After set up it was time to get this show on the road. We filled the tank, put up our backgrounds, and loaded our ink guns. We shot ink out of the shooters to create some dynamic motion while the products were, what looked to be, suspended in mid-air. Playing with the ink got us a lively surrounding to accentuate the product.

One of the things that made this project, particularly fun was the freedom Medlock gave us to be creative. They trusted us to come up with unique and eye-catching concepts that would showcase their products in the best possible light.

After we had the ink section of our video down we had to start thinking of another concept to bring to the commercial. When looking at packaging it can be difficult to see it in a dynamic lighting. As the products do minimal movement themselves we had to come up with a way that involved motion to keep the commercial eye-catching.

Stop motion was a medium that never seemed to cross paths with our work. For the Medlock commercial, we decided to take photos of the products and animate them in a way that wasn’t exactly achievable by regular movement. Importing photos of the products left us with a world of possibilities as to what we could visually create. See the video below for our stop-motion portion of the commercial!

It’s been great working with Medlock and we are so excited to see what comes in the future! Being able to create a product that meets the standards of everyone involved is truly rewarding, especially when it involves creative freedom. We’ve been truly spoiled by this project. We are ready for all that 2023 has to throw at us!
