Slow Photography. Sunlight. A Little Bit of Alchemy.
Step away from the screen and into the sun. Our cyanotype workshops invite you into one of photography’s oldest and most magical processes—where images are made with light, water, and time. No rushing. No presets. Just paper, chemistry, shadow, and the quiet thrill of watching a photograph appear in blue.
Cyanotype is a beautifully imperfect, hands-on process that rewards curiosity. You’ll coat paper by hand, arrange botanicals or negatives, expose your print in sunlight, and rinse it in water to reveal rich Prussian blues. Perfect for beginners, creatives, and anyone craving a slower way of making.

Frequently Asked Questions
Practical Matters for Curious Minds
Do I need photography or art experience to attend?
Not at all. These workshops are designed for beginners and seasoned creatives alike. If you can place an object on paper and carry it into the sunlight, you already have the essential skills. Curiosity is the only prerequisite.
What will I make during the workshop?
You’ll create several cyanotype prints using botanicals, objects, and/or provided negatives. Select sessions also offer cyanotype portrait-making. Each print is one-of-a-kind—no two blues are ever the same.
What should I bring?
We provide all materials, chemistry, and paper. You’re welcome to bring small, flat objects, pressed plants, lace, or transparencies if you’d like to experiment with personal elements. We recommend wearing clothes you don’t mind getting a little inky.
Is the process safe?
Yes. Cyanotype chemistry is one of the gentlest historical photographic processes. We’ll provide gloves and clear handling guidance, and all materials are used in a safe, workshop-appropriate way.
How long is the workshop?
Most sessions run 1 hour, allowing time for instruction, printing, washing, and experimentation. Portrait sessions may run slightly longer depending on group size.
What happens if it’s cloudy or rainy?
Clouds are part of the process’s personality. We can still print in bright overcast conditions, and we have UV light alternatives available when the sun refuses to cooperate. Weather simply adds another layer of chance to the work.
Can I keep my prints the same day?
Yes. Your prints go home with you at the end of the session. We’ll share care instructions so your blues remain rich for years to come.
Is this suitable for groups or private bookings?
Absolutely. We offer private workshops for birthdays, creative retreats, team-building sessions, and intimate gatherings. Reach out for custom dates and formats.
Are workshops accessible?
We aim to make our sessions welcoming and accessible. However, the studio is upstairs in the Stratford Train Station.
If you have mobility needs, sensory considerations, or require accommodations, let us know in advance and we’ll do our best to prepare the space.
What is your cancellation policy?
Due to limited seating and material preparation, workshops are non-refundable, but bookings may be transferred to another date if notice is given in advance.
